Desolation of Smaug (2013)

Jackson this second part of the adaptation of “The Hobbit” stars
Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch
and Evangeline Lilly. Our heroes finally make it to their destination
and face off against the dragon under the mountain.
There are some changes
between the novel and film, most notably the inclusion of a female
elf character which works pretty well in my opinion but may upset
purists. I found the plot works pretty well but maybe the themes of
greed and fathers lives reflecting on their sons are not explored as
deeply as they good be. There is a ton of CGI but it does seem that
Jackson has curbed some of his excesses here providing a ton of good
action sequences.
