Poetry (2010)
Written and directed
by Lee Chang-dong this film stars Yoon Jeong-hee, Lee David and Kim
Hee-ra. An old woman struggles to find beauty in the world while
after the suicide of a girl who was gang raped by six boys including
her grandson.
This film has a fair
amount to say about the way women are treated in a society that is
still heavily paternalistic. While this may not be for everyone I
enjoyed this tragic tale of woman trying to see the world while
everyone else largely ignores her. There are good performances from
the cast, especially Yoon Jeong-hee who has to carry the film.
