Adapted adoption story

When Marnie Was There (2014)

Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi this animated film based on the novel of the same name has English voices from Hailee Steinfeld, Kiernan Shipka and Ava Acres. An adopted 12 year old girl with asthma is send to visit relatives of her foster parents on the coast.

Taking a British novel this film does a good job of transplanting the story to Japan and manages to handle it with all the care you expect from Studio Ghibli. While the ending of the story is a little convenient for my taste it still has an emotional impact. As always the animation style is up to the standard you would expect from Studio Ghibli.
