Every journey has a beginning

Playing Cards (1896)

Direcred by George Melies this is a short film which stars Georges himself and a few members of his family. Three men sit at a table in a garden playing cards.

There is not really any plot to this film and it comes across more as a camera test than anything else. Apparently this is a remake of an earlier Lumiere film showing that cinema has never been one for originality. Lacking Melies's flair for special effects this was the director's first film so maybe we can let him off for that.
