The preach gets in the way of the fun

 

Molly's Game (2017)

Directed by Aaron Sorkin this film based on real events stars Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner. After a major ski accident instead of going to law school a young woman moves to LA and starts running poker games for famous people.

When Molly's own voice comes through this is a really enjoyable film, unfortunately Sorkin's finger prints stand out too often taking me out of the film. There are just too many familiar Sorkin-isms here for my taste and I say that as someone that has enjoyed a lot of his work in the past. Still a fun film I just wish the writer-director had shown a bit more restraint.
