Vampyr (1932)
Directed by Carl
Theodor Dreyer this film stars Nicolas de Gunzburg, Rena Mandel,
Sybille Schmitz and Jan Hieronimko. A young man out wandering
stumbles into strange goings on in a village.
The plot for this film
is pretty much your classic vampire tale with nothing that really
surprises from the story. As this was Dreyer's first sound film and
made in multiple languages there is little dialogue instead the film
relies on inter titles in the style of a silent film a fair amount.
Where the film is strongest is in the use of light and shadow in the
style of German expressionism as well as some good dream style
sequences.
