The Rare Breed (1966)
Directed by Andrew V.
Mclaglen this film stars James Steward, Maureen O'Hara, Juliet Mills,
Brian Keith and Don Galloway. A cowboy helps two English women
transport a rare bull to Texas.
The plot of this film
works pretty well at using the breeding of both cattle and people to
explore what is needed to survive in the harsh environments of Texas
ranching. There is some humour which helps the story along and
generally this is a pretty well told story. Thanks to the good cast
and experienced director this is a fun watch that might not be John
Ford but has more than a hint of one of his westerns about it.
4/5
