A Nightmare on Elm
Street (1984)
Directed by Wes Craven
this film stars Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, John Saxon and
Johnny Depp. Several teenagers share similar nightmares and those
dreams start to become real with bloody consequences.
I would say that this
slasher film is a cut above it's peers and does a decent job of
blending reality with dream to create ambiguity. The plot is your
standard gory trauma as metaphor for adolescence which you see
repeatedly in this genre. Mostly the film is well made and the
antagonist provides a great threat that is the best part of the film.
4/5
