Flight's end

Aces High (1976)

Directed by Jack Gold this film stars Malcolm McDowell, Christopher Plummer, Simon Ward and Colin Firth. During WW1 a young English airman gets his first posting to a squadron lead by a man he idolised before the war.

The plot of this film is loosely based on the play Journey's End but moves the action from the trenches to the air. Largely the story works well and is a decent if unremarkable look at how the stresses of combat as well as a high mortality rate affect men. While some of the aerial battles are good a portion of this is reused material from other films.
