Ilo Ilo (2013)
Written and directed
by Anthony Chen this film stars Chen Tianwen, Yeo Yann Yann, Angeli
Bayani and Koh Jia ler. In 1997 a Singaporean family hire a Filipino
woman to be their live in maid.
While I'm not overly
familiar with the 1997 Asian financial crisis this film does do a
fairly good job of personifying the financial problems of the region
through one family. The story works well showing how desire for
success leads to financial problems. I enjoyed the performances and
the direction is suitably low key.
