Northern Soul (2014)

by Elaine Constantine this film stars Josh Whitehouse, Elliot James
Langridge, Antonia Thomas and Steve Coogan. In the North of England
in the 1970s a young man develops an interest in American soul music
and amphetamines.
While this film really
captures a great level of energy during the musical sequences the
script seems to lack some depth. There is no real exploration of the
music that inspires the characters, the drug use or the racism of the
period. In the end this is an enjoyable coming of age tale but it
fails to be much more than that.
