No one is innocent

Le Cercle Rouge (1970)

Written and directed by Jean-Pierre Melville this film stars Alain Delon, Bourvil, Gian Maria Volonte and Yves Montand. A man just released from prison meets up with an escaped convict and plans a heist.

It may take a while for this film to get moving but it is a good slow burning crime film that builds up to an impressive robbery sequence. Much like Le Samourai (1967) there is minimal dialogue and the script focuses on the nuts and bolts of the action. The silent robbery sequence is really impressive and while this film is not to everyone's taste it is a really well made film.
