A confusing duality

The Silly Goose (1944)

Directed by Hans Fischerkoesen this is an animated short film. A young goose distracted by the finer things in life ends up prey to a fox.

Made during WW2 there is clearly an element of this film that is made to show Nazi views but can also be read as some what subversive of them. The protagonist being punished for worldy desires fits Nazi ideology but at the same time being punished for not fitting in the with social norms shows how dangerous it is to live under restrictive ideologies. I think this film typifies the problems of watching stuff from this era as a modern viewer, you are always concerned about the insidious lying under the surface.
