Attack the Block (2011)
Joe Cornish makes his
directorial debut with this film staring John Boyega, Jodie Whittaker
and Nick Frost. Teenage members of a street gang have to deal with an
alien invasion of the tower block they live in.
Superficially this is
a great little low budget action film with plenty of thrills and
spills to entertain. Under the surface this film has a lot to say
about urban youth culture, using the fantastical events to make the
characters face up to the consequences of their actions which they
normally ignore. The best performance is from John Boyega but all the
young characters have some real personality that help carry the film.
