In This Corner of the
World (2016)

Katabuchi this animated film based on the manga of the same name has
voices from Rena Nonen, Yoshimasa Hosoya and Mayumi Shintani. A young
woman grows up in pre-war Hiroshima, gets married and goes to live in
near by Kure during WW2.
I really enjoyed the
way this film tells the story of every day people suffering in what
seems to be a distant war that slowly creeps more and more into their
lives. The plot has the prerequisite sadness inherent in the
situation but without being melodramatic. What I really love is the
way that the animation mixes in the protagonists art making the film
look very beautiful at the most horrible of times.
