The Wrong Man (1956)
Directed by Alfred
Hitchcock this film based on real events stars Henry Fonda, Vera
Miles and Anthony Quayle. A poor New York musician with a family is
arrested and accused of a crime he did not commit.
At times it is hard to
see why this case of mistaken identity is any more remarkable and
worthy of having a film made of it than any other. While it does seem
like the film takes a while to get started it does cover most of the
issues well but in an unremarkable way. There are hints of the
Hitchcock style but mostly this film has all the hallmarks of a
director making a film to finish out a contract with a studio, which
was the case here.
