Half Nelson (2006)

this film stars Ryan Gosling, Skareeka Epps and Anthony Mackie. At
teacher with a drug habit makes friends with a 13 year old girl from
the inner city school that he works at.
It is easy to see how
this film received so much praise when it was released. The plot is
not especially complex but the story is told in a subtle and muted
manner which is vastly superior to the usual melodramatic nature of
films like this. Ryan Gosling's performance is really good which is
pretty important as the film would fall apart otherwise but over all
this is a really well executed low budget film.
