The Babadook (2014)

by Jennifer Kent this film stars Essie Davies and Noah Wiseman. A
widowed nurse struggles to raise her son who has a fear of monsters.
Exploring the long
lasting effects of grief and the fears of being a bad parent the
monster in this film provides a great metaphor for the film's themes.
While a lot of familiar images and tropes of the genre are here the
film twists them well enough to provide a fresh spin on things. I
really enjoyed the direction that understands to hint rather than
show and the performances of the young son.
