Prenom Carmen (1983)

Godard this film stars Maruschka Detmers, Jacques Bonnaffe and it's
director. A young woman falls in love with a guard while robbing a
bank and they run off together to stay at the apartment of her senile
uncle who is a washed up director.
Everything I liked
about Godard in the past seems like pretentious wank here which is a
real disappointment to say the least. The story maybe be based on the
opera Carmen but the film does everything possible to be obtuse for
no good reason and some elements completely divorced from reality. I
found the direction to be annoying and more often than not got in the
way of the story rather than aided it.
