The Maze Runner (2014)
Directed by Wes Ball
this film based on the novel of the same name stars Dylan O'Brien,
Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Ki Hong Lee. A group of
amnesiac young men live in the centre of a maze from which they are
unable to escape.
There is a ton of
promise in the set up of this film but I do not think it ever lives
up to it's potential as it focuses more on the action than the
society the boys develop. At times the characters are obtuse for the
sack of keeping things “mysterious”, there are some cliché
moments, some parts seem forced and not all the characters are really
deep enough. I found the final confrontation particularly silly. Most
of the performances are good and the world constructed really well so
it is a shame that this film falls so flat.
