The Godfather Part II
(1974)
Directed by Francis
Ford Coppola this sequel stars Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton
and Robert De Niro. In 1958 Michael Corleone tries to expand the
family business and deal with family problems while in a parallel
narrative young Vito comes to America and begins his rise.
Again Coppola delivers
and excellent looking film that deals with an intricate story of mob
life but in my opinion it does fall slightly short of the original.
Having two narratives does detract from having a complete unified
film and some of the sequences involving Michael Corleone do feel
like they are revisiting events similar to those of the first film.
What does stand out in this film is the story arc for Fredo which is
by a long chalk the best part of the film.
