Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola this film based on real events stars Jeff Bridges, Joan Allen and Martin Landau. A man dreams of taking on the car industry with a revolutionary vehicle.
Reality never gets in the way of this puff piece and even when the film makers are presenting the protagonist in the best possible light he still comes across as a blagger if nothing else. Given that this is not really an “as it happened” account it is a little difficult to know how to take the film. Certainly not the best of the Coppola films out there but pretty fun, you can certainly see the similarity between the protagonist and film makers who may have had less than successful endeavours.
