Arteta this film based on the novel of the same name stars Ed
Oxenbould. Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner. A 12 year old boy feels
like his more successful family members do not understand him so
accidentally uses his birthday wish to give them all a bad day.
Children's films do
not have to be simplistic and shovel mind numbing messages down your
throat but this one does. “Everything is better when family is
there” is neither always true nor really helpful to a lot of kids
suffering from serious problem but that is all that is on offer here.
There is a good supporting cast but most have little to do in their
roles.
