Philomena (2013)

Frears this film based on a true story stars Judi Dench and Steve
Coogan (who co-wrote the screenplay). A journalist recently sacked
from a government job attempts to help an old woman find the son she
was forced to give up for adoption.
The subject matter
here is not especially original, by now we are well aware of the dark
acts of the Catholic church in Ireland, but it covers the material
without melodrama. Where this film wins big is on the personality of
the two lead characters which really breathes life into the story.
Some liberties may have been taken with history but in general the
film seems to have stuck mainly to the facts.
