The Girl Who Played
with Fire (2009)
Based on the novel of
the same name this sequel is directed by Daniel Alfredson and stars
Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist. After spending a year abroad our
heroine returns to Sweden and ends up the suspect in a triple murder.
Given how well the
previous film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), wrapped up
it's story there has to be questions over the need for a sequel. The
plot seems to veer away from it's initial basis, an investigation
into sex trafficking, to a more standard thriller that relies a
little too much on coincidence for my liking. While the film is not
badly made it lacks the thematic depth of it's predecessor and at
least one of the characters appears to be a straight rip off of
Robert Shaw's character in From Russia With Love (1963).
