Ladies' Skirts Nailed
to a Fence (1899)
From the Bamford
company this film also known as “Women's Rights” is by an unknown
directoe and stars. Two women talk by a fence then have their skirts
nailed to it by two men.
There is something
reminiscent of a Monty Python sketch here but with a much simpler
joke. Until you add in the context that the women are supposed to be
talking about getting the right to vote the film has some comedic
value. In the end this is just an old time sexist film rather than
just a silly slapstick comedy.
