The Haunted Hotel
(1906)
Directed by Segundo de
Chomon this is a short film from the silent era. Three people
travelling arrive at an inn where they are bothered by spirits.
Nearly every camera
trick and optical illusion in the book is brought out here in what is
a really good example of early cinema's special effects. Right up
there with anything made by Georges Melies this is an entertaining if
very basic story. A little more story or suspense might have helped
make this a more scary effort but it is well worth watching.
