The Haunted Castle (1897)

Directed by George Melies this is a short film and his first that was hand-coloured at the lab run by Elisabeth Thuilllier. A man is shown into a room in a castle and when left alone is menaced by spirits.

Running for less than a minute this is a very simple short that just goes through a few camera tricks. There is not really a plot but the hand-colouring and the special effects at least hold your attention. Clearly this is Melies still getting the hang of the medium but it's fairly entertaining.
