A Tale of Two Cities
(1911)
Directed by William J.
Humphrey this film based on the novel of the same name stars Maurice
Costello and Florence Turner. We see the lead up to the French
revolution as told by Charles Dickens.
Not having read the
book before seeing this film made it pretty hard to follow and I
imagine large portions of material had to be cut to make the story
fit the run time. Some of the sets and costumes are pretty nice but
otherwise this is a fairly messy film. Not really worth recommending
as a piece of entertainment but maybe as a slice of film history.
2/5
