Whiplash (2014)
Written & directed
by Damien Chazelle this film stars Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons. A
19 year old aspiring jazz drummer joins the jazz band of a bullying,
abusive teacher.
No doubt this film has
great performances from it's leads and does a really good job of
putting the viewer in the position of being as nervous as the
protagonist at when his abusers next explosion will be. On the down
side I would say that the plot is rarely subtle and I have some
reservations about the implications of the plot. If nothing else this
is an intense watch that captures an abusive relationship
excellently.
