Bosko, the Talk-Ink Kid
(1929)
Directed by Hugh
Harman and Rudolf Ising this film mixes live action and animation. An
animator creates a new character who can interact with him and break
the 4th wall.
For such an early film
there are some pretty cool innovations in terms of the interaction
between human and animation. Unfortunately the film shows it's age as
the animated character is clearly a racial stereotype which leaves a
bad taste in the mouth. An interesting milestone in the path of
animated film certainly but not much more than that.
