Yellow Sky (1948)
Directed by William A.
Wellman this film stars Gregory Peck, Anne Baxter and Richard
Widmark. A gang of bank robbers come across a young woman and her
grandfather in a deserted town silver rush town.
Allegedly the plot of
this film was inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest but it is a real
stretch to find any link between the two. The plot is fairly basic
genre fare and works pretty well although I think the early parts of
the film do not hint enough at the main characters need to change so
it does sort of come out of nowhere. Mostly the film is well made
with the occasional piece of interesting photography but it is more
the odd moment that stands out rather than being an exceptional
looking film.
