She Wore a Yellow
Ribbon (1949)
Directed by John Ford
this film stars John Wayne, Joanne Dru, John Agar and Ben Johnson.
With days to go to retirement a cavalry officer leads one last
patrols shortly after the Battle of Little Big Horn.
Plot wise this is a
fairly average western with an ending that really is a little out of
place and goes to show John Ford was not always right. What the film
is famous for is great shots of Monument Valley and an iconic
sequence of the patrol against the back drop of thunderstorm which is
really impressive. The performances from the cast are about par for
the course but other than the cinematography there is not much
unusual here.
