Dog Day Afternoon
(1975)
Based on real events
this film from director Sidney Lumet stars Al Pacino and John Cazale.
Two men attempt to rob a bank, their heist turns into a media and
police circus.
As with all films
based on real events there does appear to be some deviation from the
fact in this film but enough to be disingenuous or change the tone of
the piece. The plot shows how the crime resonated with the Zeitgeist
of counter culture and sheds light on the motivations of the central
characters really well. There is plenty of tension towards the end
and this is generally a really well made film.
4/5
